West MTB is an all inclusive club team run 100% by parents and team members.

  • West Bike Team is a club sport biking team affiliated with West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. We are a group of 63 student-athletes. As a club sport, our team is run on all volunteer efforts and sponsors.

  • Any rider between 7th-12th grade. Many attend West High School in Salt Lake City, though others are welcome.

We are an inclusive club sport: this means all riders, and all abilities are welcome. The desire to ride is the only requirement.

  • We run 100% on volunteer efforts. Parents participate in many ways including riding with the team, becoming a team coach, bringing food/supplies to practice and team events, hosting team events, carpooling, bookkeeping and arranging service learning opportunities. setting up and supporting our students on race days, sharing unique skills such as health and wellness, bike maintenance, etc.

We all benefit from our shared efforts.

  • Our team coaches are parent and community volunteers. Coaches are required to ..something about NICA, and coaching licensure.

  • Our season starts in April and wraps up in late October. A rough layout for the season is below and is subject to change as needed.

April: we start with practice one day/week, (typically Thursday).

May: we meet for two weekly practices (typically Tuesday and Thursday).

June and July: we add Saturday/Sunday rides.

    August: the competitions start.

In addition to practice, we get together as a team for other learning opportunities such as a wellness program, service work in our community, and socializing. Carpooling is encouraged! All our communication is through Team Snap, a free app that contains our schedule, practice location, maps, and accessible communication for parents and riders.

  • At the start of the season, we meet for practice at locations in Salt Lake Valley, typically Popperton Park, or Ensign Elementary. As the summer heats up we head up the canyon to cooler locations. Carpooling is encouraged!

  • The competition season starts in late August.

Devo riders (7+8 graders) participate in the first three races and finish the season in late August.

High school riders (9-12 graders) participate in all 5 races and complete the season in late October.

All comps occur in Utah and past competition locations include Snowbasin, Price, Vernal, Moab, and Saint George.
